 Lindi Rivers has been singing all of her life. Born in Toronto, Canada, she began her musical studies at age five, with piano and voice lessons. Her urge to perform led Lindi to roles in variety shows and musical theatre. Lindi thrived on the ability to express herself and inspire her audience.
Lindi's journey to become a Cantorial Soloist began at Temple Sinai in Toronto, Canada, where after having sung in the choir, she was asked in 2000 to substitute for the permanent Cantor. Instantly, Lindi knew that her talents, love of Judaism and expression of her innermost musical emotions had found the perfect balance. Leading High Holy Day services at Beth Israel in Peterborough followed.Deeply moved by her experiences, Lindi had found her path. The musical development and influences that would transpire over the following years would help shape Lindi into one of the premier Cantorial Soloists in Canada.
In 2001, Lindi successfully auditioned to sing in the Lachan Jewish Chamber Choir, under the direction of Cantor Benjamin Z. Maissner, of Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto. Lachan would go on to the World Choir Games in China and finish impressively against choirs from around the world.
In 2002, Lindi accepted the position of Cantorial Soloist at Temple Anshe Sholom in Hamilton, Ont., the oldest Reform congregation in Canada. The community quickly took to Lindi's pulpit style and she soon became a favourite at the Temple.
Cantor Maissner saw what many were seeing in Lindi. In 2005, she was asked to substitute during his four-month sabbatical, and upon his return, the congregation offered Lindi the newly created position of Chazzan Sheini/Cantorial Soloist at Holy Blossom Temple, a large congregation with a 152-year history. Since then, Lindi has been studying with Cantor Maissner and blessing Holy Blossom with her inspiring voice.
This CD is a culmination of a passion that has grown strong. Lindi's desire to share in song what is in her heart has come to fruition. May you enjoy the fruits of her labour of love.
